buyer beware: YOOX edition

As you could see, it was another day, with another cute and normal rewear outfit for a hot Summer day.

I am a doom scroller and shop/sale lurker in my downtime. I enjoy listening to a podcast and scrolling though sales/wishlists/ebay auctions/poshmark new listings or whatever often enough.

For a while, I was curious and intrigued by Yoox--the idea that it was a sort of tj maxx/warehouse style discount site but exclusively for high-end designer pieces.

The prices seemed to good to be true--and yes, dear reader, they ARE too good to be true!

These Love Moschino orig $400+ boots were on clearance, and in my size a eur 40 since the brand runs small and I read the size chart.

The boots were definitely super pretty for sure BUT they arrived DAMAGED for parts! Over five of the silver studs on the boot were MISSING and there was no replacement. It was not disclosed that these were damaged/as-is in the description. They also were not the leather makeup I was expecting as it said in the description, but a cheap-feeling velvet upper that was terribly creased during the shipment as well.

My hunt for a glaidator/fisherman-inspired sandal was still very much alive and these doc-marten-adjacent designed CULT brand sandals seemed perfect.

They were really cute and a good deal for $30 BUT I strongly felt like they were previously worn and returned! They had dings and marks in the sole and they also had that worn-a-few-times or sitting-on-the-display-floor feeling right out of the box. These weren't as egregious an offense as the damaged boots, but paired together as two less-than-expected and advertised pairs of shoes I was severely disappointed and immediately prepared for the return process--which was not easy for sale items.

My final conclusion? Don't buy from YOOX. They are sketchy. There is not quality control for such shoes to be sold and billed as new.

I would rather pay more secondhand and know for a fact what I'm getting!

Have you ever bought designer pieces from discount outlets? What's your experience? xx
