eff dress codes, DAY 5.

Image
I never wore a school uniform when I was a kid but I always thought they were so cute and I wanted to have one. It was very popularity-based fashions in my school and if you were a girl who didn't have a 'Juicy Couture' or 'PINK' (Victoria's Secret) butt in sweatpants, tucked into Uggs with a tight little baby tee (preferably also Juicy), with a little 00's era Kate Spade or Prada nylon backpack that didn't fit any schoolbooks and Tiffany & Co. jewelry (especially the open heart necklace), you weren't shit.  It was only acceptable to have a Brazilian keratin blowout (not my frizzy curls), contacts, not glasses, and in gym class when you were changing, even your undergarments were up for scrutiny and fair game for Mean Girls to tease you over. They all looked the same in a bad way. It was about flashing class/money and elitism.  I wanted to look the same in uniforms so that it would be more about my personality...I definitely didn't peak at

eff gender roles DAY 4.

Image
So when I sat down to write this post and think about it, I realized that this t-shirt is 12 years old and I felt really ancient, my hat is about 12 years old too! For effing gender roles, I decided to draw inspiration from Boy George (the hat) & Shakespeare himself, King of gender murkiness and blurred lines! Anyone else LOVE the Twelfth Night? Plus, the tee itself is 'mens' and I honestly always feel like mens' t-shirts are better! They are built of stronger fabric that lasts longer and the prints are always more fun in my experience. One of my fave sections in every thrift store is 'mens' t-shirts! There are ALWAYS gems!  I'm wearing: hat- h&m (ancient) Shakespeare tee-from D.C. (old), never worn on the blog leather mini skirt-marshall's, last worn HERE  (with a different 'mens' tee!) leaf crossbody-leafling bags, last worn HERE yellow clogs-Sven Clogs, last worn HERE sunglasses-moschino (poshmark) How do you view gendered dressing and rol

'eff classy' DAY 3

Image
Today, I actually left the house to mail some sales and also to pick up a contact lens order at my optometrist's office so I thought it would be fitting to add my new mask to this outfit publicly since that's how I dress now. Today's prompt was all about not being 'classy' and immediately, I thought of the lectures I received as a little girl on how leopard print was very 'tacky' and it was even more tacky when paired with red so that's what inspired the look! Did you get 'classy' dressing instructions as a little girl too? No mixed metal jewerly? No leopard print (or leopard + red)? No shorts and heels together? No dark lipstick in the day time? No bra straps showing? Those are the main ones I distinctly remember. I think a lot of the goals were just not for me end up dressed like my icon, Fran Fine but really would that be so bad right now? I'm wearing: scallop red top-(marshall's), last worn HERE leopard print skirt-vintage, (posh

'eff figure flattery' DAY 2

Image
No, I don't want to wear a belt or 'cinch my waist' today. No, I don't want to wear a hemline that shows off my waist. No, I don't want to wear a top that isn't 'boxy.'  No, I don't want to wear heels with a skirt. No, I don't think Doc Martens make my feet look big (or white shoes, or a white skirt to my lower half). For eff figure flattery I'm breaking down these stereotypes!  It definitely feels weird to wear something 'shapeless' when I'm told so often not to but it's also liberating (and pretty comfy). I'm wearing: Dr. Marten bow crackle boots with Miss Patina shoe charms last worn HERE Heart Lollipop Blouse, diesel (eBay), last worn HERE Asymmetric Skirt, sun & shadow (poshmark), last worn HERE sunglasses, anthropologie (old) beret-eBay earrings-won from instagram What do you think? Do you ALWAYS like to wear stuff that's figure flattering? Do you take a break sometimes? Do you often break the 'rules?&#

'eff color coordination' DAY 1

I'm participating in 'eff the stylerules' today through Friday so I hope you like these looks that push me out of my comfort zone a bit and help me discover some new things! Happy Cat-urday! (Yesterday's outfit, I post a day after I wear my outfits lately) This is the outfit of a woman who has been making vodka sauce for six hours and feels very proud of how the whole small/social distant potluck bday lunch for my husband came together! We only had three friends over that he has known for many, many years and each friend brought something yummy to the meal! It was just really chill, fun, and low key. I'm so glad that my husband told me had an 'awesome birthday' since I tried so hard to make it as special and fun as possible in our current pandemic and scary climate. I'm wearing:  hat-(old, Target) tee-thrifted, last worn HERE plaid slit dress-(worn as skirt) from uo, secondhand from my sister) last worn HERE navy clogs-Sven Clogs, last worn HERE I hope that you are having a lovely weekend and would like to HIGHLY recommend you to try to make your own vodka sauce if you want a real treat and labor of love to enjoy and share with your fam
