before, during, & beyond Thanksgiving '23.

We celebrated my mom's birthday this year, lowkey at my parents' house and I made my tried-and-true chocolate mousse pie. This crochet granny squre sweater that I found at TJ Maxx has been something I've been reaching for all of the time. I love how it adds a bit of dopamine to every look I put it on with.

My aunt from out of town bought me these earrings at a farmer's market, so I felt obligated to wear them in front of her. They are SO heavy! Where are my delicate-earlobe girls at? I can't wear anything that pulls my ears down from the weight for more than a couple hours. I try to avoid them at all costs!

I DID MY FIRST POST-SURGERY hike! Sure, it was not the hardest, but it felt like a big step in going back to my pre-blockage life! It felt so good to be outdoors and active in this way. It is, of course, a big bonus that Axel enjoys hiking so much.

I'm a little self conscious of how much chest this green thrifted dress shows, but that also makes it perfect to top off with different sweaters and vests for a more 'me' spin on the look!
I got this random anime girl face tee recently and I was disappointed when I google translated the Japanese characters on front and they are just gibberish. Seems like, most like a Street name or address? very random and not as exciting as I'd hoped.
Steaming 'cheesecake' from Kirby's Cravings with full fat greek yogurt and condensed milk is one of my favorite desserts to bring anyway and everywhere. Plus, it is SO much easier on my stomach than all those very dense and highly processed Philadelphia Cream Cheese-based treats that are so popular during the holidays!
I did some barrette organizing. Look at these precious Nicole Miller Chirstmas themed ones from TJMAXX! Aren't they fun? The pink one on the bottom left is actually from high school (h&m0 and the duck ones on the left are from a boutique in Hawaii that we visited during our Anniversary Cruise!
Is there anything more relaxing than reading in bed with a mug of coffee and your dog?

My family loves when I top my cheesecake with blueberry compote, so I've been honing the recipe to bring it to Thanksgiving this year!
Here was the crazy spread of ungodly amounts of food! My husbands new tradition this year has become to bring his specialty Deviled Eggs! They are a hit!

After all the family time, it was a good idea to lay around and catch up on Love Island. Not a great show, but definitely fun and silly. Great brain rot/escapism, for sure!

My mom and I try to go to lunch or brunch at least once a week. This time, it was Snooze!

My husband started putting the lights up for Christmas the week of Thanksgiving. He makes me nervous on the ladder, but I always try to do a good job spotting him and holding onto it!

We did a new tradition this year of brunch with my sister and her best friend before dropping them off at the airport back to NY. We all agreed on Chelsea's Kitchen and it was BOMB! I got the lemon ricotta pancakes. So yummy!
Above, brunch outfit! Below, wearing my shiny and festive jacket for a dinner at my parents' house.

Look at the awesome corset details on this recently snagged Poshmark find! It's a Yucatan Bay 80's vintage leather jacket that is the perfect cropped lenghth and has BIG shoulders for some DRAMA.

A couple of outfit remixes with tried-and-true basics.

Did some thrifting before Christmas comes up to see what was out there. I always try to send my brother pictures of funny records.
Do you ever accidentally wear almost all of one brand? Above, it was my very Anthropologie-heavy look! Unintentional and feeling very much like a funky art teacher!
As someone in the sustainable and slow-fashion sphere, I feel like certain small brands are very heavily advertised by people I follow and the assumption and implications are usually that the small brands/artists make these higher quality and small-batch garments that are a much better long-term investment. This fleece yin yang shacket was a secondhand find that was still EXPENSIVE and I was horrified to realize: 1. it was itchy as fuck 2. it wasn't even lined 3. the pockets didn't zip 4. it had no closure, so I handsewed some extra black ribbon to make my own to give it slightly more shpae 5. it was os pilly and hard to care for!

Long story short, after wearing this a whopping ONE time, I decided to post it for sale. I just feel like this is a lesson for me in not falling for that $$$ small-indie-brand hype!

I also do feel similarly about the whole storefront of Lisa Says Gah, but that's a rant for a different day!

xx
